Canarian long-eared bat

The Canarian long-eared bat (Plecotus teneriffae) is an endemic species in the Canary Islands with characteristically large ears reaching up to 40 mm (1.6 inches). This bat belongs to the Vespertilionidae family and its body measures roughly 40 to 46 mm (1.6 to 1.8 inches). In Tenerife, these bats inhabit the area of Teide National Park and the pine forests of La Matanza, La Orotava, Vilaflor, Guía de Isora and San Juan de la Rambla. The Canarian long-eared bat seeks shelter in volcanic tubes and gulleys to rest in during the day.
