Librea of Tegueste

This festival has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest and dates back to the 17th century. It arose from a number of traditions with the aim of thanking the saints for protecting the town from the plague or from pirates. The locals don the traditional Tegueste costumes to re-enact scenes of country life and religious customs. Meanwhile, soldiers march along the streets towards the captain's house and a battle breaks out between the boats and the castle, affording an impressive display of light and sound. Nowadays, the Librea is celebrated every four years and has become the key date in the festive calendar of the town of Los Remedios.
