When is the best season to kitesurf in Tenerife?

You can kitesurf all year round. The El Médano area has an average of 300 days of wind per year and the water temperature is mild. The prevailing winds are from the east and northeast.

There are 2 seasons depending on the intensity of the wind:

  • Winter (October to April): from 10 to 25 knots approximately.
  • Summer (May to September): from 15 to 30 knots approximately.

What do I need to kitesurf?

  • There are kitesurfing centres in different areas in the south of Tenerife, where you can rent all the equipment you need and take kitesurfing courses.
  • We advise you to take out civil liability insurance.
  • It will always be much better to be federated.
  • In some spots, as they are rocky, it is advisable to use booties.
